Word on Shards of Domination
In this review we will take a peek over new mechanics to upgrade your gear that was brought to us in the 9.1 patch. Here are the most important things you need to know about in case you had no chance to participate in the new raid yet.
Where to get Shards of Domination?
Shards of Domination are new type gems which are inserted into special Domination Sockets. You can obtain gear with such sockets in the Sanctum of Domination raid. Helms, shoulders and chests always have sockets, and there are also more sockets according to the armor type you wear.
Unfortunately, many players were forced to move their legendary into the other slot due to the new mechanics, this resulted in large time, gold and effort expenditures. Bonuses granted by the new gems are too strong to neglect them, so if you had a legendary helmet now you’ll have to change it to the one from the raid to get the aforementioned socket.
For 2500 Stygia you can get an item to remove Shards of Domination and insert new ones instead of them.
Shards of Domination types
In Shadowlands there are currently nine Shards divided into three types: Unholy, Frost and Blood. Inserting three Shards of one type into Domination Sockets will grant you a bonus:
Unholy Shards: Chaos Bane. Your spell and abilities could drain a soul fragment from your target that will increase your primary stat by 1 point for 30 seconds. After this effect stacks up to 15 times a Chaos Bane unleashes damaging nearby foes and additionally increasing your primary stat by 3.
Frost Shards: Winds of Winter. Upon a critical strike you accumulate 6% of inflicted damage up to 180 cap per critical. Every 20 seconds you unleash the Winds that deal frost damage equal to the accumulated damage and provide you a shield of the same strength that consumes all incoming damage.
Blood Shards: Blood Link. Damaging an enemy will create a Blood Link between you and him. Every three seconds Blood Link damages your foes and replenishes your health. If you don’t need any healing it will be applied to your nearby ally.
Shards of Domination bonuses are active inside the Maw and Thorgast. Besides the three-shards “set” bonus each Shard provides its own unique bonus. You can’t put several same Shards together to stack them as Shards are considered to be unique items. Luckily there are no hardships in obtaining them: Shards are a guaranteed drop from Sanctum of Domination bosses, and once you beat all nine of them you’ll get nine Shards of Domination.
Upgrading Shards of Domination
Shards of Domination can be upgraded from the 1st to the 5th rank. The 5th rank has one and a half times better stats than the 1st. To upgrade Shards you’ll need Stygian Embers that can be obtained in the SoD raid and by doing Kothia weekly quest.
Shards of Domination bonuses are too significant to put aside, that’s why you’d better get raid gear with Domination Sockets as soon as possible.
Waiting for this patch was distressing. Players had not seen any progress in Shadowlands for more than 7 months – the real anti-record in World of Warcraft history. The euphoria everyone felt after the release was really short. So what exactly did it bring to us? New zone and two new factions The new Kothia…
In WoW Shadowlands 9.1 players are often mistaken in picking up the wrong Covenant. This ends up realizing that the damage output with a wrong Covenant is approx. 2,5% lower than with proper one. Such a difference in DPS is rather significant and produces a big impact upon your playstyle. To properly choose a Covenant…
